The 2009 First Half Fantasy Baseball All-Stars

There are just two weeks left to vote for your MLB All-Stars. I tend to pick my favorite fantasy players on my All-Star ballots, which is usually a pretty good indicator that they deserve a spot. If this were my fantasy team it would probably be a little short on stolen bases. But then it would win every other category running away...

  1. Hey Jon, how does Jason Bay not get the nod over Braun???

  2. Well it may be the Yankee fan in me that despises all things Red Sox. But he did get an honorable mention! That's big! But seriously, I think I may have weighed the batting average more heavily than the difference in Runs/RBI

  3. HRs, RBIs, runs, SBs, OBP, K/BB, - the works! Bay has always been a superior hitter to Braun, in my humble opinion. Being stuck in Pittsburgh and an injury-plagued season make people forget -- this guy is a stud. Braun was a more valuable fantasy asset when he had the 3B tag next to his name, but those days are long gone. Look at the numbers Bay was putting up in a putrid Pirates offense. He doesn't get enough respect in fantasy circles. So what if he's Canadian? Braun my have him in raw power, but that's about it.

  4. Bay is a great player but I think at the end of the season Braun will have had the more valuable fantasy season. You can make a case that Bay is a better real player but in fantasy those 30-plus points of batting average count for quite a bit.

    The stats:

    Braun .318/.416/.575 w/14hr, 49runs, 48rbi, 5sb in 240 at-bats

    Bay .278/.395/.574 w/17hr, 45runs, 63rbi, 5sb in 237 at-bats

Obviously these guys are both producing. The question is whether you want 30-plus points of batting average or 3hr, 4runs, and 15rbi. I'll take the batting average every time.
